Toyota restarts construction at Mississippi plant

The world's largest car maker Toyota Motors has decided to restart the construction work at its Mississippi plant, which will be providing about 2,000 jobs by the end of the year 2011, the company said in a statement on Thursday. It is to be mentioned here that company had announced two years back that it is stalling plans on the Mississippi plant until it feels, the demand is recovering.

Blue Springs, the Mississippi plant of the company was scheduled to start production by the year 2010 but the construction work was suspended following the economic recession in the US market in 2008. Toyota had initially planned to manufacture its famous Prius hybrid model at this plant. However, it has now changed the plan and decided to manufacture 150,000 Corolla compact cars annually, at this facility.

While announcing the restart of the
Mississippi plant, Mr Akio Toyoda, President of the company expressed his appreciation towards the Governor of Mississippi, Mr Haley Barbour, for the understanding shown by him on the delay. The company promises to give its full effort to manufacturing vehicles that can bring joy and to contribute to the region's economy and society, Mr Toyoda added.
