Country's largest selling car Maruti Alto is soon to get a 1000 cc K-series engine. Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car maker is all set to relaunch its most famous model Alto with a bigger, better engine. According to the recent reports the new Alto would sport a one-litre petrol engine from company's most popular K-series engine. The top officials from the company have declined to comment on the exact launch date or details of the new Alto. However,R C Bhargava, Chairman Maruti Suzuki India said that Maruti Alto soon needs a face-lift , as the car has been there for quite some time now. He stepped down to comment on the exact engine details of the vehicle.
Maruti Alto recently got a newer look and feel as it was made BS IV complaint on the existing 800cc F-Series engine. Maruti had however maintained he low-cost of Alto during this transformation. This time the cost is bound to increase as a bigger engine would certainly mean higher price. Currently Alto is shelved at Rs 2.29 lakh and Rs 2.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The price would certainly increase by a few thousands.
Maruti Alto remains to be the best selling model in India with an average sales of 20,000 units per month. The car has been extremely popular in India since its launch in 2000, clocking net sales of 13.5 lakh units. Maruti Suzuki commented a few days back that it wishes to equip all its cars with the latest K-series engine. This relaunch of Alto would be a part of the same plan of MSI. The company offers two variants in K-series 998cc three-cylinder, 'K10B' that is currently fitted in A-star, Estilo, and the new WagonR and a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder 'K12M' petrol engine powering Ritz, Swift and Swift Dzire.
