Mercedes ties-up with IIT Delhi

Mercedes Benz India, the country's largest luxury car maker has tied-up with IIT Delhi, one of India's top-most academic institutions, for the R&D (Research & Development) of its latest BlueTEC technology. The new technology will be used in company's latest diesel engine systems which are high-tech as well as sophisticated. The company is claiming that the new BlueTEC technology based systems will be the cleanest among its competitors in world automobile market.

At present, the company has a comparatively small R&D facility in the country based in Bangalore with around 350 engineers. Through this new tie-up the company is aiming to produce low weight cars at the cost price as low as possible. Currently, the engineers of its Bangalore based R&D facility are working on developing cleaner and greener technology for company's diesel and electric cars.

According to Mr Piyush Arora, technical director and member of Board, Mercedes Benz India, this is the first time that Mercedes Benz had tied up with an academic institute in India for its R&D effort, For Mercedes Benz, the way forward would be to enter into more such tie ups. The focus would be to move up the chain from vehicle parts to aggregates, which would perhaps culminate in a complete vehicle in the future, he added.
