After the much hyped Singur land dispute of Tata Nano, the production unit shifted to Sanand in Gujarat. According to the industry reports the Sanand plant is to be inaugurated on this June 2nd. Presently the plant rolls out 150 units per day on a trial basis. There have been speculations around the launch but exact details on who's who of the event have not been disclosed as of now.
It is expected that the company's chairman Ratan Naval Tata Gujarat's chief minister Narendra Modi, would certainly grace the occasion. India's pride Nano is currently manufactured at the Pantnagar facility in Uttarakhand. The unit assembles 200 Nanos everyday where the engines are produced in Pune.
Tata Motors have invested a huge Rs. 2000 Crore for the Sanand plant in Gujarat. The company had earlier announced that they expect 250,000 cars to be produced from the plant in the first year, which is expected to double in the next year.
Media sources suggest that Tata Motors has recently asked its vendors to reduce their supplies by up to 50 per cent as the company said that the first year's production targets have been revised. There are also speculations on the fact that the car maker has been asking its vendors to supply parts for 125,000-150,000 Nanos in the first year of production at the Sanand plant.
