Maruti Suzuki plans to develop an R&D centre in Rohtak, Haryana that would involve an investment of a whopping Rs 1,500 crore. According to the industry reports, Maruti has recently hired Nippo as a consultant for the development of a test track at the R&D centre.
Earlier the chairman of SMC Osamu Suzuki, told media that the company's Indian arm would invest Rs. 1,000 crore to Rs. 1,500 crore in developing its R&D venture at Rohtak that would later serve as the the company's global small car R&D hub. Suzuki, the Japanese car major seems to be placing large stakes in India as this is going to be the company's only so large facility outside Japan.
The same expansion plan would include higher recruitments by the R&D wing of the company. Maruti aims at localizing its R&D department in India by hiring 1,000 to 1,450 locals. In the longer run, the company would hire approximately 3000 employees in the next three years.
The government of Haryana seems keen on the establishment of SMC's R&D wing in Rohtak as the govt. allocated 700 acres of land to the auto major. The land is supposedly at Industrial Model Township (IMT) Rohtak. The centre would certainly focus on the development and designing of Suzuki vehicles, additionally the unit would also take care of facilities for component durability testing and performance evaluation.
The unit is expected to have laboratories for wind tunnel testing, collision testing, emission testing, durability testing. About 100 acres of land would be leased out to Maruti Suzuki India Limited ancillaries, while the remaining 600 acres would be dedicated to the Establishment of the R&D facility.
In a recent board meeting of the company, Nippo was hired as the supporting consultant and also there have been approvals on the adjustments that needs to be made with the parent company Suzuki. R.C. Bhargava, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) chairman said that Nippo would work at developing a plan that would be based on Suzuki's guidelines, following which tenders inviting bid for construction would be floated.
