Volkswagen Polo cup, the only touring car cup championship in India is all geared up to start from the month end. The championship would provide an opportunity to twenty drivers to compete against each other throughout the season. This effort to recognize the blooming talent in India in the filed of motor sports was introduced about 2 years back. After two years of vigorous planning and strategizing it is finally Joerg Mueller, President & MD, Volkswagen India Private Ltd. who announced the details of the cup at Sri Shiv Chatrapati Sports Complex at Balewadi, Pune. The first race of the championship would take place in Pune at the special premises of mega-sports complex from 28th May to 30th May, 2010.
This would the first and only single-make manufacturer touring car series that would be held in India. The championship would comprise of 6 races that would be held din the cities of Pune, Chennai and Coimbatore. The initiative has been responded well by the Indian sport enthusiasts as the company has already received over 1,100 registrations since February this year. The selectors had a big task finalizing the final 20 drivers. The selection was based on go-carting and the competition was held in April'2010. These final 20 drivers would now compete against each other at the Polo Cup championship and would represent the JK Tyre-FMSCI National Racing Championship 2010. This championship signals a great chance for the upcoming and struggling sport enthusiasts from India to showcase their skills amidst vast audience.
