An investment of Rs 1 is all that the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi made to rope in a heavy investment of Rs 2,000 crore for the state of Gujarat from Tata Motors. Mr. Modi also added that he just messaged Ratan Tata "Welcome to Gujarat" when Ratan Tata said in a press conference in Kolkata that they are leaving West Bengal. These statements were ushered during the mega launch of Tata Nano's Sanand plan in Gujarat.
However, what left unmentioned at this occasion was a basket full of concessions, incentives, a large piece of land on a subsidized rate and a strong political will, which is more than enough a state govt can do for establishment of an industry.
The Tata Motors had to relocate from Singur, West Bengal to Sanand, Gujarat, due to a series of political agitations on the issue of land acquisitions, there. While summing-up the company's relocation from Singur to Sanand Mr Tata Said that the company had searched for another home for Nano and it wanted to be sure that it could move in peace and harmony, and be able to establish new home for the plant... Modi stood out among all the others in guaranteeing the company whatever it needed.
The Nano production facility at Sanand which has been established with an investment Rs 2,000 crore, has a manufacturing capacity of 2.5 lakh units annually which is expandable to 5 lakh units.
